This past winter, the USACE in cooperation with the Nebraska Department of Natural Resources (NeDNR) and Hall County put forward a proposal for Silver Jacket funding that included detailed hydrologic and hydraulic analysis of the Wood River watershed from upstream of Gibbon to Grand Island.  The study was recommended to parallel the Central Platte River Section 22 analysis that will update the Platte River hydrology and hydraulics considering ice jam impacts.  The study will more accurately identify areas of flood risk and be used in future NFIP mapping through NeDNR.  Please find attached a copy of the project proposal that was submitted and APPROVED.

Typically these projects kick-off in October; however, given the recent flood events, we are looking to host a scoping/data gathering meeting much sooner than that.  We have identified you as stakeholders for the project.  If I am missing someone, please let me know.  The city of Wood River has offered to host the kick-off meeting at either Wood River city hall or the fire station.

NOTE: this is NOT the same project that was submitted for FEMA disaster funding recently for Wood River. That project, if funded, will likely be a higher level of detail modeling specifically for flooding issues within Wood River. We can discuss how these two projects may complement each other.

Please participate in the Doodle Poll to identify dates that work best for everyone:  https://doodle.com/poll/2sgt2m6qry5h3ag9
